Juan C. Andrade is USAA’s new president and chief executive officer, said the insurance provider to millions of active military, veterans, and their families.

Andrade will assume the role on April 2 and take over for Wayne Peacock, who announced his retirement in August 2024.

Andrade was president and CEO of Everest Group since the start of 2020. He has served on USAA’s Board of Directors for the last four years.

Meanwhile, Everest said Jim Williamson, previously executive vice president and group chief operating officer, has been named acting CEO, effective immediately. He will join Everest’s board of directors. Williamson joined Everest in 2020 as COO.

Andrade, a USAA member, was vice chair of USAA’s Advisory Panel, a forum established for board directors and teammates to interact with members and improve service. During his time on the board, he served on several committees focused on members, risk, financials and technology, San Antonio-based USAA said.

“USAA is a special association, and the board took great care to find someone with the right expertise, vision and leadership. Juan has a deep respect for our men and women in uniform, having served alongside them to help safeguard our national security,” said USAA Board Chairman, retired Navy Vice Adm. Jim Zortman. “We know he will continue his track record of building high-performing teams and enhance USAA’s legacy of service.”

Before Everest, Andrade was executive vice president of Chubb Group and president of overseas general insurance, responsible for Chubb’s general insurance business in over 50 countries outside of North America. Prior to that he was president and chief operating officer at The Hartford and a general manager at Progressive. Before finding his way to insurance, Andrade worked in national security and international affairs for the federal government.

At Everest, Chairman of the Board Joseph Taranto expressed confidence in Williamson. “His appointment is consistent with the Board’s succession planning process, and we believe that his deep experience spanning insurance and reinsurance sectors, functional areas and geography will deliver value for stakeholders and position Everest well for the future,” Taranto said in a statement.

Jim Williamson, Everest Group

Williamson, a 20-year veteran of the insurance industry, joined Everest in 2020 as Group COO. He assumed the expanded role as Head of the Company’s Reinsurance Division in May 2021 and was promoted to lead both the Reinsurance and Insurance businesses in March 2024.

He has also held senior roles at The Hartford, Chubb and ACE, serving in all aspects of the P/C industry including commercial, specialty and consumer lines of business in the U.S. and internationally, Everest said.
