As cleanup continues in the aftermath of the Maui wildfires, a new update released by the National Interagency Fire Center indicates there are currently 75 wildfires blazing through the U.S.
Those fires have led to the destruction of 625,387 acres in 14 states, the agency reported.
The 14 states are:
- Alaska
- Arizona
- California
- Colorado
- Florida
- Hawaii
- Idaho
- Louisiana
- Mississippi
- Montana
- New Mexico
- Oregon
- Texas
- Washington
Two new large fires were reported in the states of Mississippi and Texas.
All 10 geographic areas are reporting large incidents.
More than 18,250 wildland firefighters and support personnel have been assigned to battle the fires. This includes 18 incident management teams, 389 crews, 1,140 engines, 100 helicopters and two MAFFS C-130 airtankers.
Year-to-date figures (as of Aug. 24, 2023) indicate there have been a total of 37,706 wildfires affecting 1,824,307 acres of land.
