Ascot has promoted Elizabeth Johnson to chief operating officer, North America Insurance.
Johnson joined Ascot in September 2020 as chief underwriting officer, North America. Prior to that, she was managing director at Nationwide after almost two decades at AIG, where she held a number of senior underwriting and management roles, including head of Excess Casualty, North America and global head of Excess Casualty.
In this newly formed position, Johnson will work closely with the Ascot leadership team to enhance the company’s underwriting capabilities, data strategy, operational resiliency and integration. She will continue to have direct oversight of the North America Corporate Underwriting Office, Business Intelligence, Ceded Reinsurance, Risk and Pricing Actuarial.
Johnson will continue to report to Jon Zaffino, group president, and will work closely with Ascot’s North America company CEOs, comprised of Ascot Bermuda, Ascot Specialty Insurance and Ethos Specialty, the group’s wholly owned MGU.

GuideOne Insurance Company has named Bernard Hengesbaugh as chief executive officer.
He takes over for Andy Noga, who served as interim CEO for the past several months and will return to his role as general counsel of the company.
Hengesbaugh previously spent 23 years with CNA Insurance in various underwriting and operating leadership roles culminating in becoming the company’s CEO. Most recently, he served as chief operating officer of the American Medical Association, where he oversaw operations and successfully managed national policy issues for the 300,000-member organization.

PartnerRe Ltd. announced that Sima Ruparelia will join the company as chief actuarial and risk officer, effective June 27.
Ruparelia will be responsible for Risk and Capital, Non-Life Reserving and Pricing, and Life Reserving (2nd Line). She will be based in London and will report to PartnerRe’s President and CEO Jacques Bonneau as a member of the Executive Leadership Team.
She previously held the role of chief actuary and portfolio manager for UK, Europe, Global Specialty and Talbot, the Europe legal entity for AIG, from 2016 to 2021. Prior to that, she served as group actuary for Catlin and as UK Chief Actuary for XL Catlin, and held actuarial positions at Ernst and Young, Equitas and Pinnacle Insurance.
