Vincent C. Tizzio, a former executive vice president for The Hartford, is taking a new role as a senior advisor at AXIS Capital, with a transition to the position of chief executive officer of AXIS Insurance planned at midyear.
AXIS Capital announced yesterday that Peter Wilson, the current CEO of the Insurance segment will leave the company at the end of 2022. With Wilson moving to a consulting role on June 1, 2022, Tizzio will take the reins as CEO. Prior to June 1, Tizzio will serve as senior advisor, insurance market strategy, reporting to Albert Benchimol, president and CEO of AXIS Capital.
Tizzio, who most recently served as EVP and Head of Global Specialty at The Hartford and as president and CEO of U.S.-based Navigators Management Company before that, moves into the advisor role immediately.
As senior advisor, Tizzio will serve as a strategic counselor to Benchimol. He will not have direct reports or profit and loss responsibility for the Insurance Segment until he transitions to the CEO of AXIS Insurance role on June 1, AXIS said.
In a statement, Benchimol described Tizzio as a “highly accomplished leader with deep and varied expertise in specialty insurance” along with “a proven track record of driving profitable business results and delivering value to his core stakeholders.”
In his role at The Hartford, Tizzio led a multibillion dollar business focused on delivering a broad array of specialty products through wholesale and retail channels. Previously serving seven years as the CEO of Navigators Management Company, he led the organization until its acquisition by The Hartford in 2019. Prior to that, Tizzio worked at Zurich Financial Services and AIG, serving in progressive senior leadership roles within both companies.
Wilson, who also started his career at AIG and joined AXIS from CNA Specialty in 2013, will remain with AXIS through Dec. 31, 2022 on a consultative basis.
