Houston International Insurance Group Ltd. announced Tuesday that the HIIG board of directors appointed Andrew Robinson as chief executive officer, effective immediately.
Robinson is filling the spot of HIIG’s founder and outgoing CEO, Stephen L. Way. Way has resigned as chairman of the board but will continue to serve as a director, the company said.
Based in Houston, Texas, HIIG is a holding company with underwriting operations focused on accident and health, commercial, excess and surplus lines, and specialty.
Robinson brings a 30-year track record of strategic and operational leadership in the insurance industry and in management and strategic consulting to the new role.
Prior positions in the insurance industry include 10 years with The Hanover Insurance Group Inc., where he was president of Specialty Insurance, executive vice president of Corporate Development and chief risk officer, and a short stint with Crawford & Co., where he was global chief operating officer and executive vice president.
According to a media statement, Robinson’s responsibilities at The Hanover included all aspects of the company’s U.S. specialty businesses, as well as acquisitions, divestitures, business integration and enterprise risk management for the broader enterprise.
Prior to his time at The Hanover, Robinson served as the managing partner of Global Insurance at Diamond (now PWC) Consulting.
Most recently, he was an executive in residence and senior advisor at Oak HC/FT, a venture capital and private equity firm. According to his LinkedIn profile, he has been serving as chair of two InsurTechs in the Oak HC/FT portfolio—CLARA Analytics and Groundspeed Analytics.
