Nationwide said it launched a new smart home product designed to give homeowners with connected devices an extra layer of production.
The insurer said its new partnership with Notion will enable this extra production, via Notion’s smart home monitoring system, which monitors the home for opening doors and windows, the sound of smoke/carbon dioxide alarms, and water leaks, all from a personal device.
If customers opt into the program, they can purchase the Notion Wi-Fi enabled smart home kit at a discounted rate and save on their homeowners insurance policy, Nationwide said.
Smart home is available in Alabama, Arizona and Illinois, with additional states to be added in the months ahead. Nationwide Private Client members across the country can also access smart home products where Nationwide Private Client is available.

Bold Penguin, a commercial insurance technology provider, has added commercial auto insurance to its platform.
By doing so, business-use auto insurance can be quoted alongside the other types of coverage in a bundled fashion through a single application.
Ilya Bodner, founder and CEO of Bold Penguin, said that his company plans to expand its commercial auto options next and continue its expansion into E&S.
Bold Penguin said the addition of commercial auto to the platform streamlines the quoting experience for general liability, business owners policy (BOP), professional liability and workers compensation.

Neptune Flood, an all-digital online flood insurance company, said it is now approved to do business in Louisiana.
The company now does business in 39 states, though it noted Louisiana is the second-largest market for flood insurance in the United States due to its unique geography and history of catastrophic flooding.
Neptune’s flood insurance policies are sold by agents and directly online at neptuneflood.com. Neptune said its flood policy meets the requirements to be accepted by all banks and has many optional enhancements to the standard NFIP policy, such as coverage for temporary living expenses, unattached structures, and pool repair and refill.
Neptune launched in 2017.
