Atlas Financial Holdings promoted one of its founding members to a newly-created position at the company. Starr Insurance Companies appointed a veteran executive as Aviation Underwriting Manager.

Atlas Financial Holdings promoted Joe Shugrue to Chief Operating Officer of Atlas.
Shugrue was a founding member of Atlas and has been Vice President of Claims from the Company’s inception. In this newly created position, Shugrue will oversee the Company’s information technology, operations and underwriting and he will continue to maintain oversight of claims. Leslie DiMaggio, Vice President of Operations & IT resigned from Atlas to pursue another professional opportunity.
Atlas President and CEO Scott Wollney said in prepared remarks that Shugrue had been involved in all aspects of the company’s internal operations in addition to continuing to manage claims.
Atlas is primarily focused on commercial auto insurance in the United States, with a niche market orientation centered around insurance for the “light” commercial automobile sector including taxi cabs, non-emergency para-transit and limousine/livery.

Starr Insurance Companies appointed Carsten Nawrath as Aviation Underwriting Manager.
Nawrath will lead the build-out of a new aviation insurance operation based in Munich, Germany. The operation will write Aerospace and General Aviation business for clients across Central Europe.
Starr noted that Nawrath has more than 15 years of insurance experience with a focus on general aviation. He will report directly to Joost Vink, Head of Europe for Starr.
