The Hartford named a long-time executive with the company to lead its Middle and Large Commercial insurance business in the Northeast. An executive previously with The Navigators Group is joining W.R. Berkley Corp. to run its Berkley Re America division.

Matt Scott was named The Hartford’s new head of the Northeast Division for its Middle and Large Commercial insurance business.
In his new role, Scott leads the Middle and Large Commercial sales and underwriting operations for The Hartford’s independent agents, brokers and their customers in the Northeast, which includes the New York City and Southern and Northern New England regions. He reports to Tracey Ant, head of field operations for Middle and Large Commercial insurance.
Scott joined The Hartford in 1997 and has held a number of leadership positions with the company’s Claims organization. Most recently, he was head of The Hartford’s Claims Solutions organization with accountability for divisions including legal operations, data analytics, claims sales and service, special investigations, and reinsurance center of excellence, among others.
Before The Hartford, he was a litigation associate for Cooney, Scully & Dowling in Hartford, where he handled insurance defense litigation with an emphasis on professional liability defense work for medical and legal professionals.

W.R. Berkley Corp. appointed Daniel Westcott as president of its Berkley Re America division.
Westcott has over 20 years of experience in the property casualty reinsurance market, W.R. Berkley noted. Most recently he was chief operating officer, reinsurance for The Navigators Group, a position he started in October 2016. Westcott also has previous executive experience with Willis Re and Guy Carpenter, and once worked for American International Group as an actuary, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Berkley Re America is a specialty P&C reinsurance underwriter with an emphasis on providing products and services for insurance companies, or units within insurance companies, that have a successful business model built upon specialization in the products they underwrite.
