A former Allstate executive has been named CSAA Insurance Group’s next chief executive officer.
Thomas Troy will become the California-based insurer’s new CEO on April 8, 2019. He is succeeding Paula Downey, who announced her planned retirement from the AAA insurer last August after serving as CEO since 2010, and with AAA itself going back 45 years.
Troy said in prepared remarks that he was impressed with what Downey and her team had built at CSAA, adding that he was looking forward to getting started.
“I am excited to begin accelerating the company’s delivery of products and services to our partners and members while capitalizing on the right innovation opportunities for future success,” Troy said.
Troy has been in the insurance industry for more than 30 years. He was most recently an executive vice president at Allstate, where he led a $5 billion portfolio encompassing Allstate Business Insurance, Encompass Insurance, Esurance and Ivantage, CSAA noted.
Troy has a long history of working with agents and brokers in a variety of distribution models, CSAA said. Before his most recent position, Troy served as executive vice president of Allstate Brand Operations, where his broad areas of responsibility included agency and customer service, operations support, strategic portfolio management, operations finance and customer experience.
Previous to Allstate, Tom was executive vice president and chief operating officer at Liberty Mutual and, before that, held senior leadership positions with Safeco Corporation and was a commercial underwriter with Kemper National Insurance Companies.
Jack Brown, chairman of the CSAA Insurance Group’s board of directors, said Troy is well suited to the job.
Troy “is a proven executive whose skills and experience make him ideally suited to chart a course for how property/casualty insurance products and services will be used, experienced and delivered to AAA Members, now and in the future,” Brown said in prepared remarks.
CSAA Insurance Group offers automobile, homeowners and other personal lines of insurance to AAA members through AAA clubs in 23 states and the District of Columbia. It initially launched in 1914.
