Veteran executives from AXA and Zurich Insurance are joining Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance to handle some of its business in the UK and Ireland. Root Insurance hired a veteran campaign manager as its new lobbyist. Lockton has appointed a number of new executives to lead its new global reinsurance division.

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance appointed AXA and Zurich veterans to executive roles in the UK and Ireland. Pedro Mairos is the new head of Marine, and Sean Mannion has been named head of Property for both countries.

Mairos, a 20-year marine insurance veteran, was most recently UK deputy chief underwriting officer and head of Marine Cargo Underwriting, UK Branch, at AXA Corporate Solutions. He also held marine insurance roles at AXA in Paris, Hong Kong and Dubai.

Mannion, a 35-year insurance industry veteran, was most recently head of Property & Energy Lines, Commercial Insurance UK, at Zurich. Before that he was senior vice president and Global Property Executive at AIG UK.

Both executives are based in BHSI’s office in London.

Root Insurance hired Dave Luketic, a veteran campaign manager, as its new director of Government Affairs, a newly created role for the company.

Luketic will be responsible for the strategic direction and management of the company’s government relationships, including political affairs and public policy with U.S. federal, state and local governments, as well as developing grassroot advocacy campaigns. He’ll lead Root’s government and regulatory affairs strategy and work with the company’s leadership team to spot additional business opportunities.

Luketic, an Ohio native, comes to Root after spending two years as the campaign manager for Ohio Governor Mike DeWine. Root said he is known for building strategic alliances with key constituents and policymakers.

Before managing the DeWine-Husted campaign in Ohio, Luketic managed significant campaign operations under former Governor John Kasich as political chief for the Super PAC that backed Kasich’s 2016 presidential bid. He also served as political director for Kasich’s 2014 historical gubernatorial re-election campaign and for the Ohio Republican Party in 2012 and 2013.

Before working with Governor Kasich, Luketic served as political director for the Republican Party of Cuyahoga County in Cleveland, Ohio.

Lockton has appointed a number of new executives to lead its new global reinsurance business, Lockton Global Re.

Executives in charge of the division will be Tim Gardner, current CEO of North America Operations for Guy Carpenter; Claude Yoder, current managing director and global chief innovation and product development officer for Guy Carpenter; and Nick Durant, current managing director for Guy Carpenter.

This new global business will be a major buildout of Lockton’s reinsurance capabilities and incorporate Lockton’s internationally successful Specialty team based in London.

Gardner has more than 20 years of reinsurance and insurance business experience with Marsh & McLennan Companies and most recently served as CEO of North American Operations for Guy Carpenter.

Yoder, a 25-year industry veteran, most recently served as managing director and global chief innovation and product development officer for Guy Carpenter. He previously served as head of Marsh Global Analytics.

Before rejoining Guy Carpenter in 2017, Durant lead Marsh’s captive solutions business, which provides advisory solutions and manages more than 1,250 captives worldwide. He brings 20 years of reinsurance analytics experience to his new role and most recently was Marsh’s Global Analytics sales leader.

This new leadership team will incorporate with Lockton’s reinsurance capability, Lockton Re US, LLC and Lockton Re UK LLP.
