Aon plc promoted a veteran executive from within to lead its Reinsurance Solutions unit, a change stemming in part from a decision to retire two long-time brands and streamline.
Andrew Marcell will serve as CEO charged with managing the existing operations and growth strategy of Aon’s Reinsurance Solutions business as it begins its brand transition from Aon Benfield. Based in New York, he will continue to report to Eric Andersen, co-President of Aon plc.
The global broker/consulting firm announced in May that it would retire the brands of Aon Risk Solutions and Aon Benfield, something it did previously with its Aon Hewitt business unit brand in 2017. With that decision, Aon created an integrated global Operating Committee designed to boost innovation across Aon and make it easier for colleagues to collaborate.
Marcell joined Aon in 2015 as head of Strategy for Aon Benfield, where he developed innovative ways to grow the business across its existing client base, and put to work a range of strategies to attract new clients to the firm. He was appointed president of Aon Benfield in 2017, taking on a wider executive role to support ongoing growth strategies.
Before joining Aon Benfield in August 2015, Marcell was CEO of Guy Carpenter’s U.S. operations and head of its Global Facultative business. He was also a member of their Board of Managers and the International Leadership Team. Andy joined its London office in 1990 from Hoare Govett in London, where he was a Convertible Equity Trader.
With its reorganization, Aon has five specific global lines: Commercial Risk Solutions, Reinsurance Solutions, Retirement Solutions, Health Solutions and Data & Analytic Services.
