The Hanover Insurance Group named a long-term veteran of the company to lead its personal and core commercial lines business.
Richard Lavey, who will handle these responsibilities as president of Hanover Agency Markets, also gets to oversee the insurer’s field operations.
Lavey was most recently executive vice president, chief marketing officer and chief growth innovation officer for The Hanover. He’s taken over a position previously held by John Roche, who was appointed in October to become president and chief executive officer effective Nov. 4, succeeding Joseph Zubretsky.
Zubretsky, in turn, left The Hanover to take a position at Molina as president and CEO, effective Nov. 6. (He remained at The Hanover through Nov. 3.)
Lavey is a 25-year property/casualty insurance industry veteran. He joined The Hanover in 2004. Since then, he’s held a number of key business and marketing roles in both the field and home office. Executive positions included president, personal lines; president, field operations; and president of the company’s Northeast Region. Before The Hanover, Lavey held a number of leadership/marketing positions at The Hartford and began his insurance career at Travelers.
Roche said in prepared remarks that Lavey would “lead with focus, energy and passion” and “brings a thoughtful, strategic expertise that will help us continue to grow with our agents, further empower our field organization and drive our Hanover 2021 strategy forward.”
