AXIS Capital Holdings Ltd. has partnered with Renmin University in China to launch a scholarship there for actuarial students.
The AXIS Re Actuarial Scholarship will provide financial assistance to actuarial students in the School of Statistics at Renmin University, with a goal of helping to advance their actuarial science skills and to promote training in actuarial sciences in the Asia Pacific region.
The first five scholarships went out to students during a recent ceremony at Renmin University, according to the announcement.
Renmin University is a public research university in the Haidian District of Beijing, China. It is affiliated with a number of global universities, including Columbia, Princeton and King’s College London. According to AXIS, its post-graduate actuarial science and risk management degree is among the highest-rated insurance-focused academic programs in China.
“The actuarial sciences play a vital role within the insurance industry by enabling more advanced and accurate business analysis, risk modeling and, ultimately, decision making by underwriters,”Richard Milner, president and chief underwriting officer, AXIS Re Asia Pacific, said in prepared remarks. “We look forward to continuing to work with Renmin University, as well as our other partners in the Asia Pacific region and throughout the world, to support the educational needs and advance the professional development of students who wish to pursue a career in insurance.”
