Aspen Insurance Holdings promoted an executive to the newly-created role of Group Chief Operating Officer. Guy Carpenter & Co. appointed a veteran executive to the newly-created role of president, International. Novae Group plc, the specialist listed Lloyd’s insurer, appointed a new head of cargo.

Aspen Insurance Holdings named Richard Thornton to the newly-created position of Group Chief Operating Officer.
Thornton is set to take on his new role in addition to his responsibilities as group head of strategy. He’ll give up his current role, however, as group chief risk officer.
Thornton joined Aspen as Group Head of Strategy in March 2014, and was appointed Group Chief Risk Officer the following September. Before joining Aspen, Thornton was a partner at Oliver Wyman, leading the development of its general insurance practice in the United Kingdom and Europe.
Aspen plans to appoint a new Group Chief Risk Officer in the coming months.

Guy Carpenter & Company, LLC appointed James Nash to the newly-created role of president, International, pending regulatory approval.
Currently, Nash runs Guy Carpenter’s Asia Pacific operations. He’ll continue reporting to Peter Hearn, Guy Carpenter’s president and CEO, and relocate to London.
Nash joined Guy Carpenter in 1985 and assumed his present position in 2008.
Guy Carpenter’s new International Division will consist of all operations in the Europe, Middle East and Africa, Latin America and Caribbean, and Asia Pacific regions.
Nash’s successor the Asia Pacific region will be announced in 2017.

Novae Group plc, the specialist listed Lloyd’s insurer, appointed Helen Steadman as head of cargo.
Steadman was most recently at Mitsui Sumitomo Syndicate, where she was the class underwriter for cargo. Before that, she was a vice president at Marsh Ltd. Steadman has more than a decade of cargo underwriting experience.
Steadman will report to Darren Carr, Head of Marine.
