A veteran executive from Liberty Mutual has been appointed global practice leader for casualty claims atXl Catlin XL Catlin’s Global Claims operation.

Cynthia Koehler will oversee a global casualty claims team of technical practice leaders who focus on driving the resolution of XL Catlin’s largest, most complex casualty claims. She’ll be based in Hartford and report to Anthony Vidovich, XL Catlin’s global head of claims.

At Liberty Mutual, Koehler served in a variety of roles, most recently as vice president and assistant general counsel.

Michael Herron is Allied World Assurance Co. Holdings’ new vice president, professional liability for Allied World Global Markets.

Allied WorldHerron was most recently at XL Catlin, where he was Australasia leader for financial lines, and based in Sydney, Australia. He has also held regional underwriting management roles with other global insurers.

In his new role with Allied World Global Markets, Herron will focus on leading the growth and development of the company’s Australian professional liability business. He’ll be based in Sydney and report to Ben Howell, senior vice president Australia country manager and head of Professional Liability Division, Asia Pacific.

RSA disclosed that Derek Walsh, its group general counsel, company secretary and global broker RSA logorelationship director, will leave RSA at the end of February after more than 5 years on the job.

Walsh’s departure, in turn, has triggered new executive appointments.

Jon Hancock will handle RSA’s relationship with key global insurance brokers as well as his existing responsibilities as managing director commercial. Hancock has been with RSA for more than 25 years and has served in a number of leadership, underwriting, claims and sales positions.

Charlotte Heiss is now chief legal officer and company secretary. Currently, she’s head of group legal at RSA, and has been with the company since 2010.

Also, group Chief Risk Officer William McDonnell will assume responsibility for the compliance function.

Bill Thygeson, most recently chief operating officer for Hamilton Insurance, is the new chief administration officer of Everest Insurance. He’ll report directly to Jonathan Zaffino, president.

Thygeson’s new responsibilities include a number of facets of Everest Insurance’s operational platform, with a focus on technology and how it affects business processes for underwriting and claims. He’ll also take on a number of administrative functions.

Thygeson has more than 20 years of U.S. and international experience in business development, operating management, strategic planning and transformational leadership. Before Hamilton, he also worked a number of years for AIG in various leadership roles.
