Privilege Underwriters Reciprocal Exchange (PURE) is introducing workers compensation insurance for domestic employees of its members who live in Florida.
Eligible employees include those who care for children, prepare meals, clean homes, maintain gardens and provide transportation; applications have also been filed to expand the offering in other states. PURE is a policyholder-owned property/casualty insurer focused exclusively on high-net-worth individuals and families.
“The hard working individuals who provide loyal and valuable service for our membership can now benefit from the protection afforded by workers compensation insurance,” PURE Insurance President and CEO Ross Buchmueller said in prepared remarks.
Buchmueller said that the new option is meant to be an improvement over current standards, which have often “involved the impersonal handling of a commercial lines carrier or a government-sponsored insurer of last result.”
PURE said its domestic workers compensation policies are issued in conjunction with homeowners, automobile and other personal lines over coverage, and invoiced as part of a single bill for members’ policies, unlike other insurers. Claims get passed through PURE’s licensed adjusters, and PURE’s Risk Management Services professionals help advise on ways to improve worker safety and minimize losses.
Beyond the coverage for domestic employees, PURE said its membership can also tap into related services through a PURE Member Advocate such as identifying payroll administration vendors or tax service providers; locating recruitment or placement service providers; and facilitating complementary background checks for domestic staff and potential employees. PURE, as part of its personal excess liability policy, also offers an option for members to buy coverage that defends them against wrongful termination and other wrongful employment practices.
