Hamilton Insurance Group announced Thursday that insurance and financial services veteran Bob Deutsch will be joining the company in the newly-created position of Chief Strategy Officer.
Deutsch, who was already serving as a member of Hamilton’s board of directors and was a managing director at GCP Capital Partners, will report to group CEO Brian Duperreault. In his new role, Deutsche will seek to identify prospects for the ongoing development of the group’s operations outside of Bermuda—both organic growth and strategic acquisitions.
Deutsch has over 30 years’ experience in the insurance and financial services sector. Prior to his position as GCP Capital Partners, he was founder and former chief executive officer of Bermuda-based Ironshore. Before that, he served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of CNA Financial, and as president, chief actuary and chief financial officer of Executive Risk, a start-up company acquired by Chubb.
Deutsch has advised various companies and private equity investors in the insurance industry. Additionally, he has been a director of numerous insurance companies including Beazley Furlong Limited, Chaucer Holdings (now part of Hanover Insurance), Darwin Professional Underwriters (now part of Allied World Assurance Company), Enstar Holdings (US), Platinum Underwriters, and Wilton Re Holdings.
Duperreault pointed to the breadth of Deutsch experience in an announcement about the appointment. “Bob has done it all—as a chief actuary, a CFO, and a CEO, in start-ups and large corporations, both private and public –and he’s done it successfully. His capability, knowledge and experience will be of critical importance as we evolve from the small organization we are now to a global company.”
A graduate of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Deutsch is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society, an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
