Zurich Insurance Group AG, the biggest Swiss insurer, appointed Robert Dickie as chief operations and technology officer, filling the last open position after a string of executive departures.

Dickie, 54, a British citizen, will join in March from American International Group Inc. where he was chief operations and systems officer, the Zurich-based company said in an e- mailed statement today. He will join the executive committee after the firm named Swiss Re Ltd.’s George Quinn as chief financial officer last month.

“I am very pleased to welcome” Dickie, said Chief Executive Officer Martin Senn. “With his extensive international and leadership experience as well as his track record of transforming operations and technology across global, national and regional platforms, Robert is very well positioned to bring Zurich’s operations to the next level in support of our strategy.”

The appointment brings to a close a period in which Zurich Insurance lost its CFO Pierre Wauthier, who was found dead at his home on Aug. 26., while Chairman Josef Ackermann announced his resignation three days later after Wauthier mentioned him in a suicide note. Tom de Swaan has since replaced Ackerman.

Departing executives included Global Life head Kevin Hogan, who resigned in August to join AIG, and was replaced by Kristof Terryn, then group head of operations. That role is now called chief operations and technology officer filled by Dickie.

Dieter Wemmer quit as CFO in 2011 to join Allianz SE’s management board, while Mario Greco, former head of general insurance, left the following year to become CEO at Assicurazioni Generali SpA. Chief of Staff Ann Haugh departed in August, while Group Treasurer Colm Holmes joined Aviva Plc in November.
