On Wednesday, Endurance Specialty Holdings Ltd. announced that Stuart Pattison has joined Endurance to lead the company’s U.S. Law Firm practice.
Earlier in the week, Endurance announced that Fred Cooper had joined to take on the role of executive vice president and head of U.S. financial institutions insurance.
Pattison joins Endurance from CNA Insurance where, from 2000 to 2013, he served as both an underwriter and as the leader of CNA’s large law firm group. He started his career in 1973 at J.H. Minet (Canada) Limited, where he was a broker for major law firms as well as other professional firms.
At Minet and its successor firm Aon, Mr. Pattison was practice leader of the Professional Services Group, where he was involved in the creation and operation of a number of captive insurance companies which to this day insure major New York and California law firms.
At Endurance, Pattison’s U.S. Law Firm practice will offer both primary and excess liability coverage to mid-size to large law firms, operating within the EndurancePro business unit headed by Daniel Wadley, Executive Vice President.
Cooper joins Endurance from Aspen Specialty, where he was executive vice president and chief directors and officers (D&O) underwriter, responsible for forming and leading a new business unit offering a suite of management liability products for commercial risks and financial institutions.
At Endurance, Cooper will be responsible for growing a specialty insurance business offering management liability coverage to financial institdutions including hedge funds, private equity firms, banks and insurance companies.
Endurance said the addition of this new business to Endurance’s U.S. professional lines insurance area complements the company’s existing commercial management liability and EndurancePro units.
Cooper brings to Endurance over 20 years’ experience underwriting management liability and financial institution insurance. Before joining Aspen, he was with AXIS Insurance, most recently as executive vice president for the financial insurance solutions segment where he led the commercial D&O business within AXIS Professional Lines. Prior to that, Cooper was senior vice president, underwriting officer and product manager for AXIS’s middle market/technology/private equity unit. He has also held underwriting roles at Liberty International Underwriters, Aon Financial Services and AIG.
