If you just read the headlines, you’d think the Golden Age of technological integration has arrived in our industry. After all, less than six months ago, Lemonade—the app that boasts the ability to help consumers get homeowners, rental or pet insurance in 90 seconds—grabbed the year’s largest initial public offering in the U.S. at the time.
But when you take a peek behind the curtain of InsurTech’s much-touted successes, you quickly see much deeper modernization challenges for the industry as a whole. Because the majority of InsurTech solutions focus on a direct-to-consumer model, they don’t even begin to address the technological concerns faced by small to midsize carriers, many of whom are patching together legacy systems in an effort to achieve digital transformation.
