We’re living through unprecedented times. Just a few short months ago, no one had ever heard of COVID-19. Now, a simple trip to the grocery story is an existential threat. Most of us are sheltering in place, working from home, and juggling family and professional responsibilities as best we can—while also googling things like how to make a mask out of a t-shirt and cut our own hair. While it may not be business as usual by any stretch, it’s hard not to be encouraged by the insurance industry’s capacity to adapt and change.
Right now, P/C carriers and brokers’ business continuity planning and operational capacity is being put to the test. While carriers and brokers are focused on operational issues and face challenges adapting paper-based processes, even diehard work-from-home detractors have to admit that remote work is, well, working. And we won’t be able to put the genie back in the bottle—this experience will change the way we live and work in the future in ways both subtle and profound. Once you go digital, you never go back.
